When we woke up this morning in Oklahoma we looked out our window and we saw SNOW and ICE! Luckily, the roads were okay since it didn’t stick to the ground, but it sure did stick to our car!

After a short stop along Rt. 66 in Elk City, Oklahoma, we drove on toward Texas.  Our main adventure today was Palo Duro Canyon, often called the Grand Canyon of Texas, located near Amarillo in the panhandle of Texas.  It is 120 miles long, 20 miles wide, and the maximum depth is 800 feet.  We drove down into the canyon on a 16 mile loop that was built  by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the 1930′s.  Through wind and water erosion the canyon continues to change slowly over time.  It was breathtaking to see the amazing variety of landscape that God created.

On the way out of Amarillo, we stopped by a roadside oddity known as “Cadillac Ranch” that has been around since 1974.  Here you’ll find 10 Cadillacs buried in the ground facing west at the same angle as the pyramids. Visitors come and leave their mark on the cars with spray paint.  We chose to put Dan’s marketing degree to use and wrote “GoGriffinGo.com” on on of the cars.
