The Arizona Landscape

The Arizona Landscape

The first trip of the year is officially happening starting this Friday!  Katie and I have reserved a rental car with unlimited miles and will be heading west toward New Mexico.  Along the way, we plan to stop with family and friends across the country, do a little tent camping if the weather obliges, and find some fun stops along the way.  For example, did you know that the world’s largest sundial is in Carefree, Arizona?  Neither did I.

In case you are wondering why we did a rental car instead of driving one of our own, the answer is simple — it makes good mathematical sense.  By my calculations, even Katie’s economical Corrolla costs about $.15-$.20 per mile in maintenance and depreciation costs.  With the rental deal we received (thanks to an hour’s worth of internet deal-hunting) our milage cost will be just $.09 per mile — assuming we cover a total of about 5000 miles.

We’re super excited to be heading out so soon.  While we’re on the road, we’ll continue to be online everyday thanks to Starbucks and McDonalds hotspots, so check the blog for updates.
