While in Queenstown we took a day trip to Milford Sound with Mitre Peak tours. It was a really long day as we left at 6:20 in the morning and didn’t return until 7:00 at night, but it was well worth it. Milford Sound isn’t too far if you go as the crow flies, but helicopter tours were expensive so we took a bus and drove the long way around. It was about a five hour drive to get to Milford Sound, but the drive was beautiful and well worth it. When we reached Milford Sound we took a 2 hour boat cruise out onto the fiord (Milford is actually a fiord not a sound). The mountains seemed to tower above us as we wove our way around in the boat. Our favorite part was something we didn’t even expect to see. We got to see some dolphins playing around in the water right next to our boat!
We tried to capture the beauty of our ride to Milford Sound – it’s hard to do

Nope, the picture isn’t upside down. That’s a reflection in the lake!

We were lucky enough to see dolphins on our Milford Sound boat cruise!
The dolphins sure use their blow holes
Here we are at the front of the boat on our Milford Sound boat cruise.
The mountains were huge (hard to even fit in the camera’s view)
