Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
We came back to Georgetown, Malaysia for one night so that we could catch our early flight the next morning. While there we were able to see a few temples that we hadn’t seen before. We took a short taxi ride up to Wat Chayamangkalaram, a Thai Buddhist temple. After walking around there [...]
Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Okay, so I know you’re going to think this is crazy (since we are already on vacation), but we both were in need of a getaway. We’re becoming weary of traveling from city to city and country to country so we decided to go to a resort for a few days. We traveled [...]
It has been so much fun to try the different foods that Malaysia has to offer. There are several local dishes that we have enjoyed such as Nasi Lemak (rice with peanuts, anchovies, cucumbers, and a boiled egg on the side). There are tons of hawkers (streetside vendors) around the streets of Malaysia, but [...]
Georgetown is a much smaller city (in Malaysia) compared to Kuala Lumpur which we were thankful for. We’re pretty much big-citied-out. Georgetown’s architecture was unlike any other city we’ve been in simply because they had such varied architecture. Georgetown, Malaysia had [...]
We took a short taxi ride north of Kuala Lumpur to visit the Batu Caves – Hindu temples built in and around limestone caves. The architecture, designs, and colors of the temples were very ornate. The temple caves seemed to be very much a tourist attraction while we were there, but are visited by [...]
We spent a few days in Kuala Lumpur (or “KL” as many call it), the capital of Malaysia. It is a large airport hub so it is convenient and cheap to fly in and out of. Kuala Lumpur is a big city with roads that wind in and around one another – feel free to [...]
For our 3rd and final day on our quick stop-over in Melbourne, we wanted to make sure that we spent some time seeing the city highlights.
One of the more famous of Melbourne’s attractions is the Queen Victoria Market — which is the largest market in the southern hemisphere. Even though we knew it would be [...]
Can you guess what kind of meat we cooked? Hint: We bought it at the grocery store in Melbourne.
Ready for the pan
Those turned out nicely!
Looks good.
Since Melbourne is an airline hub between New Zealand and Asia, it made sense to spend a few days here before heading over to Malaysia. What struck us immediately about Melbourne was how expensive everything was. Even our hostel (and we are talking very, very basic) was in the neighborhood of $65 USD per night.
Overall, [...]
Because Wednesday was such a nice day (short sleeves!) we had an opportunity to do two outdoor activities we had been wanting to do.
The first was the “Polynesian Spa.” This spa pipes in water from the hot springs of Rotorua into seven different mineral pools. These pools are high in alkaline and acid making them [...]
