We took a short taxi ride north of Kuala Lumpur to visit the Batu Caves – Hindu temples built in and around limestone caves. The architecture, designs, and colors of the temples were very ornate. The temple caves seemed to be very much a tourist attraction while we were there, but are visited by many Hindus during various festivals. In order to reach the caves we had to hike up 272 individually numbered stairs so needless to say we got some exercise! At the bottom of the caves and along the steps of the caves there were lots of monkeys scampering about. We even got to feed them a few snacks. They were very cute, but we were sure they carry lots of diseases . . . so don’t worry we made sure to wash our hands.
