Of the 17,000 islands in Indonesia, Bali is one of the more touristy and more developed — not to mention easily accessible. Since it was an inexpensive and fairly quick flight to Bali, we decided to make this our next stop. Since it is peak season in Bali now, we had a hard time finding a place to stay, even for a few nights. Eventually we found a place called “Tropical Bali” that not only had an opening, but was only $30-$35 per night, depending on whether you wanted air conditioning. We really loved it there, and believe it or not, it didn’t bother us when we had to move to a room with no A/C because the breeze is so nice almost all day long.
One of our favorite parts of this hotel was that one of the co-owners was a chef at a very upscale restaurant in Sweden for over 20 years. So the food they served us here was spectacular — rivaling any top-notch restaurant in the States (but about 90% cheaper than it would have been in the US). Our meals were served to us several times a day on our private porch. What a nice experience this was!
